Five Eyes (FVEY) is a post-war intelligence alliance comprised of Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States. This group of countries is bound by an agreement to share military, signals and human intelligence.
How does Five Eyes affect what we do at Raytio? Most recently the Five Eyes alliance have called on tech companies to engineer backdoors into end-to-end and device encryption to enable the alliance to investigate suspicious people. While encryption plays a crucial role in protecting user data, privacy, and IP, the Five Eyes argue a compelling case that it also protects violent criminals, terrorists, and child abusers. However, the demand from FVEY to provide a backdoor in end-to-end encrypted data feels like a breach of user trust for many tech companies. Plus, a very real concern exists that a backdoor, once created, could be misused by hackers to expose the personal data of hundreds of millions of users.
At Raytio, we value our users’ privacy and will never provide a backdoor in to our end-to-end encrypted data. One of the fundamental purposes of our identity verification solution is to perform detailed identity checks, such as politically exposed person (PEP) and sanctions screening, when onboarding new customers as well as on-going reviews, to ensure that your organisation is protected.
